Folding in Texas Holdem

The goal of every player in Texas Holdem is to play in as many hands as possible, and one of the ways that that can be achieved is by folding. If you are new to the game, it is important that you learn the benefits of folding properly.

The fact is that folding can be an effective Texas Holdem strategy. At its most basic, it will allow you to save the money for another time, when you will get the big hands. For this reason alone, it is worthwhile to include folding in your game plan.

There are numerous times when you will have to fold in Texas Holdem, and one of the most common is when your strong pre flop hands weakens at the flop. A lot of players are very reluctant to let go of hands, particularly faces, but there are times when it must be done.

For instance, if you are holding QhQc and the flop shows up a A-5-8. Suppose the 5 and 8 are both clubs. Here if you get the Queen you get the set, or another club and you have a flush draw. If you only get callers, then it is all right to bet for the turn. If there were any Aces, then someone would have raised.

If the turn does not bring you anything, then fold. Why? Because by this time the bets will be very expensive. Also, depending on what the turn brought up, it could have strengthened your opponent's hand, so the correct Texas Holdem strategy would be to fold.

Another example of when to fold is when someone has the big hand. You will know this when you raise pre flop, bet again on the flop and he still makes a raise. What that player is doing is checking you out. Unless you are holding something you consider to be the best hand, you should fold.

Folding in Texas Holdem is something that is hard for a player to do, but there is really no point in staying in a hand that you will not win. If you do fold and find out later that the turn or river was a good draw, that is something that you can live with. Folding properly goes along well with playing the correct odds in Texas Holdem.

By playing the correct odds, you should be comfortable knowing that in the upcoming games you will have more money to raise with.
